THE ANOINTING OIL
Page 1
Anointing oil is an unguent, or ointment prepared from oil alone or with the addition of flowers, herbs, and other botanicals. The Holy Anointing Oil is sacred and is not a general purpose anointing oil. It is for consecration and sanctification purposes only.
What is sanctification?
1. To set apart for sacred use; consecrate to the worship or service of God.
2. To make holy; purify.
3. To give religious sanction to, as with an oath or vow: sanctify a marriage.
4. To make productive of holiness or spiritual blessing.
When using anointing oil during times of prayer, it is important to remember the anointing oil is only a symbolic representation of our faith in God and the Son Jesus Christ. Anointing oils have no “special power” in and of themselves. It is God alone who performs miracles and answers our prayers of faith... with or without anointing oil.
Throughout the Bible there are over 180 references to aromatics, incense and ointments. Frankincense, myrrh, galbanum, cinnamon, cassia, hyssop, and spikenard were some of the aromatics used to anoint and heal the sick.
