THE METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF HERBS

Sassafras - Sassafras opens up the fifth chakra (throat) and allows easier communication of ideas. It enhances the connection you have with angelic beings that watch over you. Sassafras affords you greater psychic protection against the negative effects of external harassment and attack. It will ward off or lessens the blows of conflicting forces.

Saw Palmetto - Saw palmetto symbolizes reproductive and creative energies. These energies can be squandered in sexual exploits or they can be sublimated and used to increase inner potency and creativity.

Passion Flower - Passionflower was so named by Jesuit missionaries in Peru because it was thought that its distinctive corona and petals resembled the crown of thorns that Jesus wore. The herb was said to pacify the spirit. As an herbal essence it will impart a sense of peaceful balance and tranquility. Meditations with the flower can be quite mesmerizing, similar to looking at a Mandela. It brings focus and accord to the mind and heart.

Burdock - Burdock root offers many opportunities for healing. It will help the emotions and watery self to flow more freely while nurturing the self to be more content and stable. Anger, aggression, bias, and excess ambition will be relieved. Stagnation or discontent with what one has or is will begin to clear up and be transformed into more positive perspectives.

Slippery Elm - This herb will give the strength, nourishment, and soothing encouragement needed to move through the cycles of life. It softens our resistance to changes and allows us to feel more internal unity and centeredness.

Cinnamon - Cinnamon helps build the internal fire and will. Its warm energy can dissipate inner coldness and allow the creative fires to burn.

Hops - Hops flowers have been used in dream pillows to induce a peaceful sleep. Make a small pillow case and stuff it with hops and sew it shut at the open end. Other herbs, such as lavender, chamomile, and Mugwart may be added. Place the pillow near your head when you go to bed and have pleasant dreams. Hops will benefit one who is closed off to either giving or receiving. Its flowers worn in a pouch will remind one to be open to the inflow and outflow of the universe. Just as the tides ebb and flow so we must also be emptied before we are filled again.
